The better part of my 20’s and 30’s was spent building communities of like minds, free thinkers, foodies, music connoisseurs, designers, and hustlers. This is self-evident with the events created with Massive Selector, the people brought together at Poleng Lounge, or the ventures launched at The Summit.

Now as I near my 40’s (Holy shit, I’m the old guy at the club), I’m still driven by the power of community.

I’ve learned that if you inspire enough people, spark enough energy— great moments can be created.

Saturday, 6/20/15, will be one of those great moments.

I’ve been working the first half of the year with my old partner in crime, Marky Enriquez, and our new collaboteurs, Dorothy Santos and Rap Sarimento, to curate an amazing line-up of change makers and thought leaders in the field of business, food, technology, and art + activism to inspire and predict…. what’s next for the Filipino community?

2015 is not only the year that I turn 40, but the 100-year mark of San Francisco’s coming out party after the 1906 earthquake. We’re going through unprecedented change driven by a new economy as well as a tectonic shift in demographics that affects every fabric of our lives. I know, I know, we we hear it all the time… the Bay Area is getting too expensive, the richer are only getting richer, the artists are getting pushed, we’re running out of water…

It’s time to stop crying that the sky is falling. It’s time to come together and take action.

I joined Next Day Better because I know how to make the Next Day… Better. And I want to share it with everyone.

How? By harnessing the crowd and the power of community. I started Plinth Agency about a year ago, and since its inception I’ve used crowdfunding to raise nearly $400k to fight hearing loss, cure lower back pain, preserve Philippine Tribal arts, launch an artisan boba shop, and build a restaurant. On Saturday, 6/20/15, I’m going to share 3 secrets on how our community can use crowdfunding to fix some of the ailments that are plaguing our city.

I’m honored to have been chosen by my fellow curators to represent the vanguard of Filipino entrepeurers in the Bay Area, along with PJ Quesada of Ramar Foods, the premier packaged Filipino brand in the nation (Magnolia, Pampanga’s Best, etc), who will share his vision of Filipino food.

For my beat heads, we have Professor Oliver Wang presenting his new book, Legion of Boom, that chronicles the history of the Pinoy DJ scene that started in Daly City.

To keep us heart centered and focused on what matters, Dori Caminong of Glide Memorial will have a fireside chat about radical inclusion and inequality, while storyteller and comedienne, Kat Evasco, will make us laugh and cry with her chronicles about coming out.

My childhood friend, Everett Katigbak, the former Brand Manager at Pinterest and Facebook, will reveal his secrets to discovering the soul of a major tech company.

And last but not least, I’ll be hosting a panel discussion with my longtime collaborator, Chef Tim Luym, and Jason Angeles of upstart FK: Frozen Custard, and PJ Quesada to explore the future flavors of Filipino food from sweet, savory, and beyond. We will taste Tim’s latest experiment of Sisig and Grits, and finish it off with FK’s Silvana Custard.

Join me and the other change makers, thought leaders, beat heads, and innovators of Next Day Better as we put our heads together and pave a new path for the future.
